Volunteers

Whether you're a young or mature adult, there are many good reasons to get involved in the Villa Rica community, including:
  • make new friends
  • to feel needed
  • to share a skill
  • to get to know a community
  • satisfaction from accomplishment
  • to keep busy
  • to donate your professional skills
  • to have an impact
  • to do something different from your job
  • be a part of your community
  • explore career and personal interests
  • earn great recommendations for future employment or college applications
  • develop marketable job skills
  • build your resume
  • enrich your education
  • uncover hidden skills and talents
  • increase self-confidence
  • get out of the house and make a difference
  • have fun!
Volunteers remain a vital part of the Villa Rica Parks & Recreation Department's success, and we appreciate your interest in sharing your area of expertise with the community.

All volunteer applicants are subject to a background check. You may download these two background check forms from our website and mail or hand-deliver the originals to Gold Dust Park along with a copy of your driver's license.

Athletics Volunteers
There is a quote that says "No man stands as tall as one who stoops to help a child." By volunteering as a coach, a person gets to help in the fundamental growth of many children. The importance of coaches could not be overstated -- without them our programs would not exist. Come be a part of something great, a child's life!

If you are interested in joining this group of volunteers, please contact Mike Best, Athletic Manager, at 770-459-7011 or .

Teen Program Volunteers
What a great group of teens! Consider assisting them with workshops, training and fieldtrips.

To volunteer, contact Corlis Long-Hudson, Concessions Coordinator, at 770-832-3404 or clinthud@bellsouth.net.

Senior Center Volunteers
Volunteers are needed for delivering meals to our shut-ins and assisting with crafts, activities and fieldtrips. We also need speakers to educate our seniors on nutrition, diabetes and other topics of interest.

To lend a helping hand, contact Ernestine Mullins, Senior Director, at 770-459-7018 or .

Programs Volunteers
As part of our Family Fun Initiative (where we encourage local fun for the entire family at no cost), both indoor and outdoor community events are held throughout the year and require reliable and friendly people who enjoy working with both children and adults. Volunteering is about donating your time, energy, and skills generously.

Learn more about volunteer opportunities by visiting "Special Events" and "Looking Ahead" from the homepage.

In Programs, every day is a celebration! If you are interested in volunteering for a particular event or a number of events and would like to talk with someone, please call or email Kimberly Stovall, Programs Leader, at 678-840-5959 or .

Pine Mountain Gold Museum Volunteers
Gold panners are needed at the panning shed to assist children as they pan for gold. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. We will teach you to be an expert Prospector!

Must be able to commit to a 3-hour shift at either 10:00am - 1:00pm or 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Our volunteers serve as ambassadors to the public. They greet and orient visitors to the Museum's layout and resources. They have a sincere interest in people and an understanding of the commitment and passion required to share time, knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors.

What are the personal qualities of a Museum volunteer?
  • Open-mindedness and patience to work with a diverse public and staff
  • Integrity to represent the institution and oneself with the highest standards
  • Dedication to the Museum's mission and to the values of the Volunteer Program
  • Reliability to consistently keep one's volunteer commitment to the Museum
Our Museum's success will be greatly determined by our volunteer staff. We need your help to continue our goal of providing an educational and entertaining venue for future visitors.

If you, or someone you know, would like to be a part of this exciting project, please contact Carla Smothers, Pine Mountain Gold Museum Manager, at 770-459-8455 or . We will forward an application to you, then contact you to establish a convenient time for your orientation. We look forward to you becoming one of the smiling faces seen daily around the park.
